I was 10 and looking out the car window

h and stamped jewelry store

I used to love watching the world go by while riding in a car, when I was little.  I used to wonder what each person I saw on the road was up to, where they were going and why, who they loved, what their lives were like.  I would also, of course, wonder what my life would be like when I got big and drove around in a car.

I never knew my calling

I was never one of those people who knew what their calling was from day 1 (how I envied those people!).  But I think I knew more then than I realized.  I remember being about 10, doing the ride in my mom’s car to or from Mervyn’s or Sears or Gemco, when I suddenly had this vision of myself owning and operating a store.  I wasn’t sure what kind of store but it was so real and felt so right and fulfilling that I remember that feeling to this day.  I remember blurting out to my mom that someday I want to own a store!  We talked a bit about it and went on our merry way.

I didn’t grow up and pursue ‘my dream’ from that day

I fell in love with computers and advertising and web design and electronic commerce. Being in Silicon Valley, I joined the high tech work force after college and worked my way up the ladder.  It was fun.  It was interesting. I learned a lot. I met my husband. Whew! I was living a pretty good dream!  But I always knew there was something missing. I taught myself jewelry design and took a bunch of classes.  This kept my creative side happy for a while.

After the birth of my 2nd cutie, I went through what a lot of new moms go through – how can I contribute to the household but still be a really good mom?  What kind of work can I do that will make a difference in the world?  How am I going to do anything with so little sleep?

My part-time status at my job was going away, so I decided to dive into the web design business I had started on the side.  I loved computers and design so it seemed a perfect match for me.  I had gotten trained and certified in web design at San Jose State and I had a few clients so it kept me busy and brought in a little money. Then along came blessing #3!

The spark

Along with him, my interest in jewelry design was renewed for the sole purpose of wearing some brag jewelry about my three cuties. At the time, there wasn’t much out there that was very cute, so of course I took matters into my own hands.

An obsession with jewelry, my kids and web design – guess what came next?  I launched my hand stamped jewelry line and website and proceeded to work my patootie off while also committing to being the best mom I could be. That was ten years ago. Yes! We are celebrating our 10th year in business and guess what I recently decided was still missing?  You guessed it – my storefront!  So stay tuned as we embark on this next exciting chapter and work to bring our local customers someplace to go for a quick, personal and unique gift!  I couldn’t be more excited!

Our New Website Coming Soon!

With summer ending and school starting, we at Heart On Your Wrist are now looking at what’s next for us!  We are so excited to be working on our new website, which we hope to unveil soon. Over the years, we’ve made a lot of changes around here. We’ve moved to a bigger studio, added many new products and product lines, and continued to improve how we make & deliver our jewelry. One thing that hasn’t changed as much has been our website. Sure, we’ve made some small changes here and there, but the underlying site hasn’t changed much for several years.

Heart On Your Wrist Unique Personalized JewelryThat’s changing shortly, and we’re excited to share it with you! We try to provide truly the best service you’ll find when shopping for h and stamped jewelry. But having great service includes having a friendly, easy-to-use website, and our current falls short of where we want to be.

The new site will be easier for customers to navigate & use, and will be nicer to look at, too. It will also allow us to make future improvements more quickly, which means we can continue to make it even better going forward. We hope to make shopping on our site just as much fun as receiving your jewelry!  And we can’t wait to start getting some great feedback from our favorite people, our customers!

Rock Art Transformed into a Necklace

Rock Art turned into jewelry

Ah yes, it’s summer.  And when the kids are not in camp, they are tasked with finding ways to entertain themselves, much as we did when we were kids.

We are lucky to have a few kids in the neighborhood who don’t live far from us, and our kids are able to congregate and hang amongst the houses and yards.

I was impressed the other day to find that my daughter and her friends had occupied themselves for a few hours with ‘rock art’ (a term we came up with, but I’m sure we didn’t invent).  They used pretty Sharpie pens on the rocks in front of our house, and decorated each one with designs, words and pictures.  When they showed me their collection, I was so impressed with their creativity.

Infinity Rock Art

There were a couple rocks in the collection that caught my eye – I just loved the images on them. The infinity with ‘love’ incorporated into the line was so unique and sweet. I decided it would look great on a necklace, so I took a close-up photo of it and got working on the photo in Photoshop.  I cleaned it up a bit and had to get rid of the little gold dots, but what I ended up with was a beautiful and sweet image to etch onto a charm.  A few hours later we had a sterling silver version of it, ready for photos!

We had a lot of fun with this idea and wanted to share it with our customers.  If you see an image or draw an image you just love and would love to wear, let us know!  We would love to make it into a charm for you.

They took the rock art a step further by decorating rocks with the names and themes of each of the businesses on our little strip where our studio is.  Each business got a set of rocks that represented their business or had the business name.  They left the rocks at the doorstep of each unit.  What a sweet surprise for them to find at their doorsteps the following day!
